An Integrated Approach to Health Human Resource and Clinical Program Planning by Level of Care

By Lee Geyer, Geyer and Associates and Geoff Ballinger, Canadian Institute for Health Information

Regional health human resource and clinical program plans should be informed by patient needs and respect the fact that some programs and levels of acute care cannot sustainably be delivered in every community or health region.  This workshop will introduce participants to new analytical tools, developed for CIHI by Geyer & Associates, that support linking program and health human resource strategies to patient needs by level of acute care.

Facilitated by Lee Geyer, the workshop will introduce the new programs and level of care tools and illustrate how they can be used with CIHI data holdings to:  describe the current roles of hospitals and hospital system from a regional provider perspective; describe how and where regional populations access health human resources and programs; and to screen for opportunities to improve health system design.  Participants will be actively engaged in selected health region program case studies and in discussion of the implications and opportunities for program and HHR planning.

Conference Primer: Health Workforce in Canada

Lead: Caroline Chamberland, Telfer School of Management, University of Ottawa, Naomi Armah, University of Manitoba

Warm up for the 2018 CHWC with your fellow students by partaking in a health workforce trivia game! Following an initial orientation to the health workforce field, a trivia game will enable students to refresh their knowledge of the key terminology, background concepts, Canadian health workforce context, and key challenges that will frame discussions throughout the conference. At the primer, students will also have the opportunity to engage in an open and informal discussion with career professionals in the health workforce field. By engaging in this session, we hope that students will gain the knowledge, tips, and tricks that will allow them to engage meaningfully in the 2018 CHWC and leverage all of the opportunities that the conference has to offer.
