1st place:

Katherine zagrodney

Katherine Zagrodney is a PhD Candidate in Health Economics at the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation (IHPME), University of Toronto. She also works as a Research Associate at VHA Home HealthCare. In both capacities, her research concentrates on health human resource challenges in the Personal Support Worker (PSW) labour market. Her main research interests include evaluating policies related to PSW employment, wages, and differences by care sector.

2nd place:

 Patrick TimonyPatrick Timony is a research associate at the Centre for Rural and Northern Health Research (CRaNHR) as well as a PhD candidate with the School of Rural and Northern Health at Laurentian University in Ontario. His research interests include, studying of the distribution and practice characteristics of health care providers in Ontario, with a particular interest in linguist competence and the active offer of French language services and how linguist concordances/discordances between health care providers and patients can influence care delivery, patient satisfaction and patient health outcomes. Patrick also holds a master’s degree in human development as well as a bachelor’s degree is psychology.

3rd Place (tie):

Mara Mihailescu is an MSc Health Systems student at the University of Ottawa, supervised by Dr. Ivy Bourgeault & Dr. Jennifer Dimoff. She is a Mitacs Accelerate intern with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists and a research assistant on the Medicine Case for the CIHR-SSHRC Healthy Professional Worker Partnership. Her research interests center around the mental health of the health workforce, gender equity, and workplace culture.

Caroline Chamberland-Rowe
is a PhD candidate in the Health Systems Management Program at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management, a CIHR Health System Impact Fellow working with the Champlain Maternal Newborn Regional Program and the Maternity Care thematic lead with the Canadian Health Workforce Network. Her research adopts a community-based, impact-oriented, mixed-methods approach to examine how health workforce policy, planning and management can best be deployed to align workforce supply, distribution and mix with population health needs so as to promote equitable access to care. Her engagement in this field spans the maternity care, primary care, and mental health sectors.
