Facilitating inter-provincial care
Physicians practice close to provincial borders cannot provide care to patients outside their jurisdiction.
However, following discussions with the CMPA, the CMQ has chosen to waive this requirement during this
pandemic and allow Ontario physicians to treat existing Québec patients virtually without special
authorization.

In cities with close provincial borders, (e.g. Ottawa, ON and Gatineau, QC) physicians often treat patients from
another province. In regular circumstances, physicians in Ontario who wish to provide virtual (or telemedicine)
care to Québec patients require special authorization from the Collège des médecins du Québec (CMQ).
